A few tips (for choosing, storing, serving, tasting)
Serving and tasting well Champagne
HOW LONG MUST REST A CHAMPAGNE AFTER BEING TRANSPORTED ?
Ideally, bottles must rest a couple of days before tasting, if they were transported for a quite long time.
WHAT IS THE IDEAL GLASS TO DRINK CHAMPAGNE?
- Plastic is hydrophobic and so it produces big bubbles, while fine bubbles are what is really appreciated in a Champagne : so plastic glasses are to be avoided !
- Furthermore, the bouquet is better preserved in a flute glass than in a chalice.
- The flute, when not too narrow, has the advantage to maintain better the effervescence and to let appear a line of fine bubbles
- Some flutes have a point of effervescence, which is a matted part in the bottom from where the bubbles depart.
- Chalices, as they are a little broader, are recommended for Grand Champagnes.
SHOULD WE SWIRL CHAMPAGNE TO BETTER APPRECIATE THE AROMAS ?
It is not recommended to swirl Champagne to express aromas. This only causes a loss of effervescence which has no effects on aromas.
